springer shotguns legal in springer matches?
 

When you guys have springer-only matches, do you allow shotguns? My CA870 is spring, but it shoots 280 and has the equivelent of a hicap for a shotgun (40 rounds :D)

if not, time to pick up another p229 at SIR I guess

At springer matches, I think the official FPS limit is 300 (someone correct me if I'm wrong), but generally people tend to use either spring pistols (like TM or KWC) or clear springers from SIR or CT.
Many people that come to springer games use those clear shotguns, but although a TM M3 shotgun would technically be legal for the game, people generally don't use them because it would probably give you an unfair advantage against what other people are taking, not to mention you don't wear a vest for springer match (or usually a helmet); just a mask, so it'd hurt a good bit more.

I always thought the limit was 250FPS if not 200FPS. That being said, if someone is using a ~300FPS shotgun, I'm using my VSR-10 :D

yeah, I definately can see how it would be an unfair advantage, even if it was just rate of fire. Ah well, I kinda liked that clear P229 after I painted it...

I'd like to put the limit to 250 fps or within that range, within reason of course.
If it were up to me i wouldn't allow shotguns.

Basically the general rule is, if you wouldn't want to be shot repeatedly with your own springer, while wearing a t-shirt, then most likely others won't either.

Generally we like to see people using pistols, since they have lower FPS, or clear shotguns that don't shoot beyond 260 FPS.

250 would be a good limit for springer matches. I think it was higher mainly for those blue shotguns like Gord and Trip have. I can't think of any other springers that are really appropriate for springer matches with higher fps than them. Even a spring rifle (I mean one of the crappy CYMAs, not a VSR-10 ;)) isn't a great choice for a springer match regardless of fps.

250 puts even bone-stock TM shotguns out of it...they tend to chrono around 275-280 new, a little less when broken in. Hell, some TM springers shoot over 250. A few years ago we chrono'd a TM HGHU springer MK23 at 280.....

Err.. Yeah.. 250 is a good limit, and Trip and Ding wouldn't like it if you tooked away their shotguns :D
